The AMA medical style guide is the editorial manual for the American Medical Association, and it first appeared in October 1962 as a guide for in-house staff and, as a secondary responsibility, for authors. It is now in its 10th edition and with each new edition, has expanded in size and is now a massive 1032 pages in total – not one to carry in that rucksack! Almost every major medical journal uses this as its style guide, which amounts to a substantial amount of users. It is published in conjunction with JAMA – the Journal of the American Medical Association, and is updated regularly with the help of the JAMA editors. Looking on the JAMA website will also give you hints and tips on how the write and submit medical articles. (more…)

 White Paper’s come in two main forms – the Political and the Commercial. Either way, the aim is the same; you need to argue that your idea, your point of view on a topic or problem, is the best solution to the task at hand. Weather your selling a new way of checking emails, or pro-posing a policy shift, your aims are identical. You have to educate, argue and sell. Writing it may seem like the hard part…but there’s more to come. To really ensure your White Paper is as strong as its ever going to get, you need to tackle the hardest part straight on.  Expressing one’s self clearly while learning a new language is problematic within any language.How to transform the concepts thatappear so clearlyin a person’s head onto paper, with no feedback or interaction to let you know what you could have to clarify, back up, or give anexample of, is normally a trial-and-error process that feels like taking two steps forward and three steps back. These particular challenges aremagnified significantly when working in a language thatisn’t your mother tongue.
