Margot's War

A short introduction

Author: Ty

Ty Knoy grew up in Indiana and spent most of his working years in Michigan with newspapers and news wire service for Advance Publications (commonly thought of as Condé Nast).

The Margot Renard title character is loosely based on the life of an acquaintance of the author's aunt. She and Margot (not the real name) were in high school near the beginning of World War II. All during the war, while she was in college, Margot suffered "“ mightily and silently "“ praying, waiting, distracting herself with furious play and study of classical piano.

What this turned into should be a Great American (female) novel, the author asserts, but he readily admits he may be the wrong person -- not enough sensitivity? wrong gender? -- to have written it. Still, he strongly feels Margot's life must be put into print and provided with an ISBN number before those of the Greatest Generation, and we who remember them, are gone.

The story unwinds gradually in an over-the-shoulder point of view of a man who, when college age, fell desperately (and futilely) in love with Margot, and who now, many years later and in widowhood, is trying to find her.
