Author: Michelle

Since her food allergies emerged in 2002, aged 19, Michelle Diana Lowe started to see food differently. Her first food intolerance was to cow's milk, and within fourteen years, it progressed to a dairy, fruit and nut intolerance. By 2016, Michelle was officially diagnosed with a dairy allergy and oral allergy syndrome. Oral Allergy Syndrome is a more complex immunology disorder that Michelle has. Oral Allergy Syndrome is categorised by an allergy to pollen or/and trees. When the immune system of the sufferer recognises similar proteins to pollen or/and trees in food such as raw fruits, nuts and raw vegetables, they can also have an allergic response. People like Michelle with Oral Allergy Syndrome cannot eat raw fruits and nuts. Some sufferers can eat cooked fruit, but Michelle can only eat cooked apples when they have been boiled and pureed into a baby food like substance. All other fruit, Michelle cannot eat, even when cooked. Determined not to be beaten by her allergies, Michelle developed a positive mental attitude and began to change her relationship with food. That is when she wrote the book Dairy Free and Happy! from her own first-hand experiences of living with allergies. Knowing what it is like to have daily challenges, Michelle wants to bolster and empower children with allergies, and help them see that they are no different from other people their age, they just have unique needs. With the right support, they can achieve anything and live happy and fulfilled lives. You can find out more about Michelle and her book by visiting michelledianalowepress.uk
