Author’s review

My editor did an excellent job. Don't know what I would have done without her. She took a personal interest in my manuscript encouraging me all along the way. Being a first time writer, with absolutely no writing skills, she brought the manuscript to fruition with the basic editing that I needed such as quotations, paragraphs, sentence structure, etc. But mostly because she took an interest and encouraged me. Thank you Rhonda for a wonderful job.

I chose FirstEditing because I could have the manuscript edited on a payment plan. I did not have the money for a full editing of the entire manuscript at one time. So, as I got the money, I was able to break it up into sections and pay for it in installments, which was great. Also, a free sample editing by you helped me to choose you to do my editing and I checked you out with BBB and you have a great record for satisfying the customer.

The challenge I faced as a first time writer without any education or background in writing, overwhelmed me. But I wrote as it flowed and Rhonda, my editor did the rest, correcting all of my errors and giving me a clean polished manuscript which I am now presenting to writing agents and publishers.

There is no way I could have done this without you editing my manuscript. Once again, thank you Rhonda for your great work and encouragement along the way. Thank you FirstEditing for working with me on a payment plan. I will recommend you to any first time author.

I plan on writing two different series of books from this book and will use FirstEditing for those.

I owe it all to FirstEditing and my editor. Thanks again

A short introduction

Macey Lee Baker had no idea, when she let her sister Betsy Cotter prod her into taking an adventurous vacation with her back to her hometown, just how close they would come to being murdered.

Dreams and nightmares haunt Macey Lee of a time long ago, that she had blocked out of her mind; dreams now causing her to have flashbacks as she and her sisters question her sanity.

Nor did she have any idea that her vacation trip to visit with siblings she had not seen in years would lead her into an investigation of the death of her 10-year-old brother 45 years ago.

Was it an accidental drowning, as listed on the coroner's report? Macey Lee had no doubt that her quest was to find out what happened to her brother, not only for herself, but for her Mom, who believed until her death that he had been murdered.

Missing records, suspicion, vandalism, threats, lies, and cover-ups bring the sisters into a full-fledged investigation of neighbors and law enforcement that were part of this small backwoods community in 1954.

Did Jasmine Hopewell, long-time friend of their deceased mother Madeline Cayne, hold the secrets and evidence -- or was she just rambling and confused? Is someone really threatening her life or is she imagining prowlers, as her children claim?

Did they have an angel or angels protecting them as they continued on with their investigation, or were they at the mercy of their would-be murderer?

Was God leading them to the answers or would this investigation lead to their deaths, too?

Will these unlikely detectives find the truth, or would they forever wonder what happened to their brother, found dead and naked in a pond 45 years ago?

A retired real estate broker and a coffee shop/bookstore entrepreneur, I was shocked when sitting on my back porch last August 2012, drinking coffee, and God gave me this title: My Brother's Finder, My Brother's Keeper.

I questioned as to why that popped into my head, and was soon to find out that He was inspiring me to write a book about the mystery surrounding the death of my 10-year-old brother in 1954.

Although I've written and recorded songs, I had no writing experience and felt I did not possess the skills to write a book. However, three days later, I started writing it. Each day I said "I am not going to write anymore, I cannot do this." But each morning, after a cup of coffee, God would give me two or three more chapters to write until I had the whole original manuscript written in 16 days.

The original manuscript, written from my heart, was set aside for safekeeping and for family only, as this story is based on true events. I then started revising and editing. The names of characters and places were changed along with turning many of the events around. Although most of this is based on true events, I fictionalized some of it for reader interest.

The epilogue was the hardest for me to write, as I knew I wanted to write more books. After working on it eight months, I ended the epilogue to enable spinning two different series from this book.

I have three children, two grandchildren, and a great-grandchild. I live alone in Florida with my best friend; my little Pomeranian, who is one of the stars in my book.

Although retired, my activities and interests include walking, horseback riding, bowling, reading, cooking, singing, playing guitar, board games, watching mystery shows and other things, in addition to my new love ... writing.
